Main contents of the AIDA 3 course:
Theory section:
•Physiology of breathing and the body’s adaptation to breath-holding.
•Basics of barotrauma and pressure equalization techniques.
•Deep adaptation, including techniques such as “lung packing” and “increased lung capacity.”
•Safety and rescue protocols.
•Principles of apnea training.
Pool and open water practice:
•Improving static apnea (STA).
•Dynamic apnea training (DYN/DNF).
•Deep diving sessions in open water.
•Advanced pressure equalization practice (Frenzel and other methods).
Requirements for AIDA 3 certification:
To successfully complete the course and receive certification, a freediver must demonstrate:
•Static apnea (STA): minimum 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
•Dynamic apnea (DYN): minimum underwater swim of 55 meters (with fins).
•Constant weight dive (CWT): minimum depth of 24 meters (with fins).
•Rescue skills: demonstrate safe execution of a rescue protocol from 10 meters.
•Technique: demonstrate proper diving technique, including efficient equalization.
•Theory: pass a written exam based on the course material.
In conclusion:
The AIDA 3 course is considered a major milestone in freediving education. After completing it, divers can train at greater depths (up to 30–40 meters) and begin to approach apnea as a serious, trainable discipline.
